Intermediate Sailing ASA 103

In some ways, the transition from Beginning to Intermediate Sailing is the biggest step you will take in this sport. Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered.

Your study of terms and technology continues in Intermediate Sailing. Now you need to understand the parts of the boat you rely on for food, water, and shelter, in addition to safety.

You’ll learn about weather and navigation and how to apply that knowledge to trip planning. Beginning Sailing was a daytime course. Prevention and responding to onboard emergencies also become important as you learn to venture further on a sailboat.

You’ll soon find the amount of time you spend sailing and the places you go are only limited if you choose to limit them. ASA 103 is truly a gateway to a whole new world.

BECAUSE STUFF HAPPENS

Please understand that your change/rescheduling affects all other enrolled students, some of whom may have already purchased airfare, hotel accommodations, and taken time off work to attend this class. Your changes also affect your instructor’s schedule, as well as boat scheduling, having made the boat unavailable for charter during the scheduled class time.

If you must reschedule, you can request alternate dates up to 30 days before the start of your scheduled class, with a 10% rescheduling fee, allowing you to book another date up to one year from your original class start date. There are no refunds offered if you cancel within 30 days of your class.

BEST WEATHER IN THE COUNTRY… BUT

While Southern California enjoys some of the fairest and most consistently good weather in the USA, we will on rare occasions have to postpone a class due to inclement weather (typically a Small Craft Advisory). This decision is made at the discretion of the sailing instructor and management of BPY. If a decision to postpone a class is made, it is done so with the safety and comfort of of our clients in mind. If foul weather is forecast we urge you to contact us for an update.

SUGGESTED CLOTHING

Deck shoes with white soles and a warm jacket are essential year round. Casual comfortable sports clothing is recommended – layers are the way to go. Please pack all personal gear in a soft case or duffle bag, and remember that boats have very limited storage space.

No hard suitcases are permitted on the boats.

RECOMMENDED GEAR

These items are highly recommended. They are not required for the classes, but will make your sailing experience more comfortable and/or interesting: flashlight, sailing gloves, sailing knife, Personal Flotation Device (PFD), hat, sunglasses and sun block, portable VHF, and cell phone.
