November 15, 2025 @ 9:00 am November 16, 2025 @ 5:00 pm

All-Women’s ASA 101 Sailing Class
Join us for our very first women-only ASA 101 sailing course, taught by WCM’s own Ann Auwerda!

What You’ll Learn in ASA 101 (Basic Keelboat)

  • Sailing Basics – Understanding points of sail, wind direction, and how to control the boat using sails and rudder.
  • Boat Handling – Tacking, jibing, steering, and trimming sails for different conditions.
  • Safety at Sea – Essential knots, safety gear, crew overboard procedures, and how to navigate safely in a harbor or open water.
  • Rules of the Road – Basic right-of-way rules and communication with other vessels.
  • Rigging & Boat Care – How to prepare the boat before sailing and properly secure it after.
  • Teamwork & Confidence – Rotating roles so you experience trimming sails, steering, and skippering.

By the end of ASA 101, students are able to sail a small keelboat in light to moderate winds, act as a confident crew member, and take the first step toward becoming a certified skipper.

Why Take a Women’s Sailing Class?

  • Comfortable Learning Environment – Many women feel more at ease asking questions and practicing skills in a women-only setting, free from judgment or intimidation.
  • Build Confidence on the Water – These classes are designed to encourage independence and self-reliance at the helm, helping students gain the confidence to skipper a boat themselves.
  • Supportive Community – You’ll meet other like-minded women who share your interest in sailing, often forming friendships and future sailing partners.
  • Empowerment & Leadership – Sailing requires decision-making, teamwork, and problem-solving. Women’s classes focus on giving every student a chance to lead, take the helm, and manage the boat.
  • Fun & Adventure – Beyond skills, it’s a chance to enjoy time on the water, disconnect from routine, and do something adventurous in a supportive group.
