DESCRIPTION:✨ All-Women’s ASA 101 Sailing Class ✨Join us for our very first women-only ASA 101 sailing course\, taught by WCM’s own Ann Auwerda! \n\n\n\nWhat You’ll Learn in ASA 101 (Basic Keelboat)\n\n\n\n\nSailing Basics – Understanding points of sail\, wind direction\, and how to control the boat using sails and rudder.\n\n\n\nBoat Handling – Tacking\, jibing\, steering\, and trimming sails for different conditions.\n\n\n\nSafety at Sea – Essential knots\, safety gear\, crew overboard procedures\, and how to navigate safely in a harbor or open water.\n\n\n\nRules of the Road – Basic right-of-way rules and communication with other vessels.\n\n\n\nRigging & Boat Care – How to prepare the boat before sailing and properly secure it after.\n\n\n\nTeamwork & Confidence – Rotating roles so you experience trimming sails\, steering\, and skippering.\n\n\n\n\nBy the end of ASA 101\, students are able to sail a small keelboat in light to moderate winds\, act as a confident crew member\, and take the first step toward becoming a certified skipper. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy Take a Women’s Sailing Class?\n\n\n\n\nComfortable Learning Environment – Many women feel more at ease asking questions and practicing skills in a women-only setting\, free from judgment or intimidation.\n\n\n\nBuild Confidence on the Water – These classes are designed to encourage independence and self-reliance at the helm\, helping students gain the confidence to skipper a boat themselves.\n\n\n\nSupportive Community – You’ll meet other like-minded women who share your interest in sailing\, often forming friendships and future sailing partners.\n\n\n\nEmpowerment & Leadership – Sailing requires decision-making\, teamwork\, and problem-solving.
